4-H Project

Project Manager: Lynn Grosz, 4-H agent

Purpose of Project: To provide horticultural instruction to 4th grade students

Number of Volunteers Needed:  3-5

Skills Needed:  Teaching, Like to work with children

Young people at Tye River and Rockfish Valley Elementary Schools are introduced to the concept of growing fruit trees and garden vegetables while learning SOL-related basic horticultural knowledge, from the parts of a seed and flower to the environmental inputs that make plants grow.

4-H has curriculum that we use in the classroom. The MG volunteers meet with the Agent to go over the curriculum and agree on who will do what and where. Volunteers are given the leader’s guide and spend some time at home preparing/practicing their presentation and gathering the plant materials used and preparing the seeds for germination.
