Native Plant Propagation
Project Manager: Isabelle Richmond
Purpose of Project: To work with the Wintergreen Nature Foundation, propagating native plants
Number of Volunteers Needed:
Skills Needed:
Join an active group of volunteers at The Wintergreen Nature Foundation. The group meets every Tuesday at the Trillium House. Propagation methods include collecting and germinating seeds of native plants as well as asexual propagation including cuttings and grafting. In 2004, the inventory of native plants included more than 40 species representing both herbaceous and woody types. Fern propagation is currently being expanded. Participants will gain unique experience with a variety of unusual (and sometimes hard to propagate) materials, and have the opportunity to investigate and develop new/improved techniques for propagating these plants.
