Humpback Pioneer Farm
Purpose of Project: This is a joint project with the National Park Service. We aim to teach young people the skills, values and traditions of planting, maintaining, and harvesting a 19th century "survival garden".
Also to interpret these skills, values and traditions to the general public.
Number of Volunteers Needed: We need at least six regular volunteers, to work in pairs and cover 2 to 3 hours each week, May thru August. (see Calendar). However, we can always use more volunteers, particularly on "Open House" weekends. Orientation and additional training will be offered by Blue Ridge Park personnel.
Skills Needed: Interest in learning about 19th century "survival gardens". Willingness to mentor young people. Willingness to dig and get your hands dirty.
